SEPTIC SYSTEM
There are three levels of sewage treatment: primary, which reduces some solids through a settling process; secondary, which further reduces solids and other pollutants; and tertiary, the most stringent.
Kootenay Lake Village is installing a state-of-the-art sewage treatment facility that will tertiary treat sewage produced by the community to the highest standards and reduce sewage to clear effluent.
Home owners at Kootenay lake Village are required to install septic tanks and pumps. Liquid effluent from these tanks is pumped through the sewer system, to a sewage treatment plant, where it is screened through a sand filtration system and then sterilized by a dual ultraviolet light plant before being dispersed into the Kootenay Lake.
Kootenay lake Village’s sewage treatment plant is manufactured by Orenco, a company from Oregon founded in the 1980s. Over the past 24 years, the company has grown to become an industry leader, with more than 240 employees and 100 distributors and dealers, who represent most of the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and parts of Europe and South America.
